Save the Date 8.4.12

August 4th is just around the corner! The Save the Dates are out and a lot of details are starting to fall into place.

I had hired the lovely Heather Heckel to screen print the Save the Date cards and couldn't be happier with the results. She did an amazing job,  paying attention to every detail. For the return address I used SimonStamp.com to produce a custom rubber stamp. They are really reasonable and have an impressive turnaround time.

The invitation is still a work in progress, but I'm making some good headway. Stay tuned...

Something to Write Home About

Shopping in Mumbai didn't offer the same feeling of instant gratification as other places, say Paris or New York for instance. But with an open mind and some patience, the city delivered quite a few treasures. Ronak and I got around in a Cool Cab (with our trusty driver Harish) and scoped out Mumbai's hidden gems, most notably Chimanlal's and FabIndia.

Located on a side street behind New Excelsior Cinema, we almost missed Chimanlal's unassuming entrance. The door to this paper shop was a portal into a world of saturated color and pattern, insulated from the sounds of traffic outside. The prices were so good, I left with a huge stack of paper and a guilty smile feeling like I had gotten away with something.

Next stop... FabIndia, a local chain that provides a platform for rural artisans to sell their handicrafts in the urban marketplace. I love the concept of this store and was happy to support their mission with my purchase. With my increasing interest in embroidery I was drawn to these pillow covers that showcase traditional Kantha stitching techniques. They look perfect in our bedroom and complement the pillow we already have from Anthropologie.

Hot Off the Press

I just finished the last session of my Wood Type Letterpress class. I'm psyched to come away with a set of "egg" and "pomme" note cards. I didn't really plan on any particular word before coming to class, but rather looked into the box, chose the letters that I thought were most interesting and played a little game of Scrabble. It just so happens that the egg card is very timely with Easter & Spring and I can imagine the two framed as a pair in my kitchen.

Tiny Treasures

Whenever I'm in Montclair I make a point to stop by Parcel, an extraordinary stationery shop that sells vintage paper supplies, game pieces, ribbon, party favors, and nostalgic odds and ends. I'm not able to get there very often (which may be a good thing), but when I do I take the time to scour every corner, shelf and basket in search of unique gift wrap adornments. There always seems to be an unintended harmonious palette and theme running through the items that I compile.
