Early Bloomers

Of all the women I know that are pregnant, there is one I am particularly excited about... my sister, Rachel! I'm really looking forward to becoming and aunt and as soon as I heard the news I started planning baby projects from now until her June 27 due date. It's not easy for me to hold on to gifts for very long, so I've decided to give Rachel & Fabien the things I make as I finish them. First up, bloomers! Once I got the hang of the pattern, they sewed up pretty quickly, and feeding the elastic through was a cinch due to my scrunchie-making days in middle school.

Bon Voyage

I finally gave in and used the wrapping paper I had originally bought to hang on my wall. I decided it was worth cutting up to create a little pre-Paris excitement for Jess... and of course I know I can count on her to save the scraps. ;)

First Impressions

Last night I took a Intro to Letterpress workshop at Intima Press. It was amazing. Working with 15th century metal type is a tedious, manual, time-consuming process that could not be further from the digital technology I work with day in and day out. It was just what I needed on Monday, having felt comatose from sitting in front of the computer for 8 hours straight.

After thinking much too long and hard about it, I selected a quote by Picasso: "I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it." This idea sticks with me and comes out in my desire to constantly learn and demystify techniques so that by the time I'm an old lady, just maybe, I may have the ability to make anything.

Tick...Tock...

...the countdown is officially on! Kari and I finished assembling the last of the Save the Dates today and dropped them in the nearest mailbox. Just a mere 6 months now before the Big Day...

It's a Tie!

For Ron's 30th birthday I wanted to give him something original
that would capture this time in his life. I made a tie to signify the accomplishments he has already achieved so far, and the goals he has set for himself as he begins this new chapter in his life.

I was really excited to work with Liberty of London fabric for the first time and navigate my way through an unfamiliar pattern, learning quite a few new hand stitches as I went along. I think Ron looks really dapper in his new tie-- the rich berry colors sparkle against his crisp white shirt and the navy suit tones everything down to create a perfect, and timeless, ensemble.
